Which Type of Stone is Best for You?
When it comes to picking out stone, there are as many options as there are quarries; but most fit into one of these three categories: granite, quartz and marble. The best way to narrow down your choices is to take a look at which type best fits your project.

    Kitchen
For kitchens, we recommend either granite or quartz. In this high traffic area, your surface will come into contact with a variety of substances. Granite, when sealed, does well with resisting stains; and it handles heat well. Quartz, resists stains without needing to be sealed and is heat resistant up to 300ºF.

    Bathroom
Surfaces in bathrooms receive lower traffic and are generally less exposed to substances that can harm stone. Granite, quartz, and the more delicate marble are suitable for bathroom surfaces. Granite and marble should be sealed, and care should taken to not expose them to harmful substances such as bleach. Quartz, resists stains without needing to be sealed and is heat resistant up to 300ºF.

     Outdoor
In outdoor environments your surface will be exposed to the sun and the weather. Depending on the application, granite or marble are recommended. Both granite and marble should be periodically sealed. Granite will perform better on surfaces used for food preparation. Quartz is not recommended, as exposure to the sun will cause the colors to fade and yellow.

     Laundry
Surfaces in laundry rooms will be exposed to substances, like bleach, that can be harmful. We recommend granite or quartz. Granite should be sealed to protect it from spills. Quartz does not need to be sealed, however, you may want to check with the manufacturer if it will be susceptible to bleach and other laundry room substances. The very porous and delicate marble is not recommended. Laundry room chemicals may not only stain, but they also may etch your surface.
